This past Tuesday night, a tour that has been years in the making found its way to the legendary Club Passim in Cambridge. And while I'm pretty sure Joan Baez never picked up a Banjotron 6500 in her time at what was then known as Club 47, that evening in the underground listening room was the kind that reminds you why small venues—and live music in general—matter.

Christopher Paul Stelling delivered the kind of beautifully raw, heartfelt set that his die-hard fans have come to expect. With a voice full of emotion, guitar work as fiery as ever and storytelling that invites everyone to be part of the performance, it's easy to see why "Never miss a Christopher Paul Stelling show" is something that's been uttered more than its fair share of times.

Not to be outdone, the sonically bold Tall Tall Trees (Mike Savino) brought his signature blend of experimental banjo wizardry and masterful looping to the Passim stage for the first time and without question left the audience with toothy grins from ear to ear. Accompanied by the legendary Banjotron 6500, Savino filled the quaint listening room with textured layers of sonic joy that would warm even the coldest of New England's souls.

Together, the two created a night that felt equal parts intimate and electric. Two old friends sharing songs and stories and the audience lucky enough to be in on it.
