It was a bone-chillingly cold winter night in Harvard Square last Friday, but if you happened to be one of the lucky few inside the legendary Club Passim for the Hawk in the Nest album release show, your frigid soul was quickly thawed by the warm tones of one of the region's best singer-songwriters.

In case you were unaware, Hawk in the Nest is the full-band project of local award-winning singer-songwriter Avi Jacob. While Jacob's songs have always presented with a soulful element intertwined with with top-level song craft, this new manifestation is the most R&B forward to date, bringing in bassist Joel Hamilton, piano virtuoso Noah Jones of the Psycodelics, and Michael Quinn of Doom Flamingo on horns. If you haven't listened to the album yet, put that at the top of your priority list. (Bandcamp / Youtube / Apple Music / Spotify)

On this evening, Avi's accompanying band members unfortunately fell ill, so in place of a full-band show the audience was treated to a solo acoustic performance from Jacob with material spanning his entire catalog. I don't think anyone was caught complaining about that. This attendee certainly felt lucky to be there.

If you missed this release show you're in luck, you've got another chance.
