Maybe it's because he produces genre-crossing music that mixes humor and vulnerability in an incredibly relatable way. Or maybe it's the man himself, and his ability to bare his own soul, that makes everyone else feel more open to letting loose the things we normally restrain. Whatever the reason, most in attendance would probably agree that evening's show was one of the highlights of their musical year. One of the highlights of the evening came when Carpenter stripped things down for a few solo acoustic numbers. During songs like "Rage," the entire room could be heard scream-singing every word back at him. It's a pretty remarkable thing to watch one person with an acoustic guitar command that kind of unified response. There's something incredibly special about music that can be both deeply personal and so completely communal at the same time. I don't think there's any doubt that Medium Build seems to have figured out how to make that happen at will. Opening the show, Canadian singer-songwriter [Ken Yates](https://www.instagram.com/kenyatesmusic/?ref=musicsavage.com) brought his thoughtful, wit-filled lyrics and understated delivery to a crowd already chomping at the bit for connection. Yates, much like Carpenter, has a gift for bringing life to tales about everyday scenarios that most of us can only marvel at, even if it feels like the song is written about us. I don't think we could have hoped for a better pairing for the evening's bill. --- ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/medium-build-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9828.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/medium-build-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9735.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/medium-build-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9778.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/medium-build-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9858.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/medium-build-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9820.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/medium-build-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9875.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/medium-build-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9842.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/medium-build-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9897.jpg) Medium Build @ Royale // Photos: Steve Benoit ( [@BosConcertPhoto](https://www.instagram.com/bosconcertphoto?ref=musicsavage.com) ) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9471.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9487.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9406.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9391.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9393.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9416.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9464.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9401.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9608.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9624.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9505.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9490.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9555.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9672.jpg) ![](https://www.musicsavage.com/content/images/2026/10/ken-yates-royale-@bosconcertphoto-5K1A9632.jpg) Ken Yates @ Royale // Photos: Steve Benoit ( [@BosConcertPhoto](https://www.instagram.com/bosconcertphoto?ref=musicsavage.com) )
