Photos + Review | Deer Tick + Ravi Shavi @ Rocks Off Cruises NYC
Last week, we boarded a cruise ship bound to plod along the NYC’s East River. With us, were 200 fans lucky enough to catch a 3 hour tour of the river and upper bay and sets from Providence based rockers Deer Tick and openers Ravi Shavi. Opening the day was Providence’s Ravi Shavi who aptly rocked the boat with a (wait for it) boatload of swagger and sizzle, if only to relent the crowd briefly before Deer Tick climbed on stage. A Tick show never disappoints, and this wouldn’t be the first time we’ve spent booze cruising with this band. It’s a little bit of fish out of water seeing these guys in pure daylight, but riding south along the river catching views of the city and rocking (pun intended) to songs that feel like they have defined our last 10 years was awesome.
Deer Tick was in town to promote their fantastic documentary that follows the project from inception with a very young John McCauley through to their 10 year anniversary show at the Brooklyn Bowl. We were able to catch a screening while in town, and highly recommend it.
Check out Straight Into a Storm and our photos from the boat.
