The latest WFMO & Music Savage Show “Song of the Week” spotlight is focused on the fantastic new single “Better Man Than Me” from St. Louis musician Pokey LaFarge. The hip-shaking song is from his highly anticipated new album, Manic Revelations, out May 19th via Rounder Records and is now available for pre-order.
This is his eighth studio release (the second for Rounder) and the new album’s title refers to the state of mind artists find themselves in during the creation process. LaFarge debuted his song-writing talent to the world in 2006 with his self-released solo record, Marmalade. In 2009 the songwriter joined forces with fellow Missouri musicians Adam Hoskins, Joey Glynn, and Ryan Koenig to form Pokey LaFarge and The South City Three. With this talented band in place the accolades and awards came flowing in as strong as the Mississippi River with each new album.
Much like the mighty Mississippi, Pokey and his band create a sound that defines Missouri. Twisting and turning through the musical landscape of ragtime, country, jazz, blues, and rock as effortlessly as the river itself has shaped the state’s landscape. Americana roots music at its finest.
The tour in support of Manic Revelations kicks off May 20th in St. Louis, MO and will stop in our area Saturday, July 8th at The Sinclair. All dates can be found on his website. Get out and see him live!
