This week’s WFMO X Music Savage Show “Song of the Week” spotlight is on the fantastic track “Never Been Wrong” from Waxahatchee. It’s the latest single from the brand new album, Out in the Storm, released July 14th via Merge Records.
Waxahatchee is the project of Alabama-born, now Philadelphia-based, musician Katie Crutchfield, a talented singer-songwriter who began creating music as a child in her hometown of Birmingham. She wrote and recorded her debut album, American Weekend, in one week and released it in 2012 to critical acclaim. Crutchfield’s innate capability to connect with the listener through her deeply personal and emotionally charged lyrics has garnered her “Best Album” and “Best Song” accolades with every record released. Out in the Storm is sure to keep the winds of praise howling.
One of the album’s highlights is the opening track, “Never Been Wrong,” which kicks into gear immediately with powerful guitars and powerful lyrics. It’s an angry and fierce song that is underlined with vulnerability and sadness. Waxahatchee’s music delves into the muck and mire of life and shines a light on the ability to find motivation in exasperation.
The tour in support of Out in the Storm begins July 25th in Vancouver and will stop here in Boston August 19th @ Royale. Tickets and tour information can be found here.
