2012 | Steve’s Top Albums of the Year

1. Father John Misty – Fear Fun [C]roce, Skynard, Nilsson, Fogerty and Morrison had a baby and named it Father John Misty. Right out of the gate this album rocketed to the top of my most listened to list. Hooked in by “Well You Can Do It Without Me”‘s Nilsson-like flavor and then drawn into the much deeper and more complicated workings of stunners such as “Funtimes in Babylon”, “Only Son of the Ladies Man”, and… fuck it, the whole album is fantastic. 2. The Lumineers – The Lumineers [I]t says a lot about the state of the musical union…

Photos | Joe Fletcher & The Wrong Reasons + Spirit Family Reunion + Samantha Harlow – TT the Bear’s

Photos by Boston Concert Photography [J]oe Fletcher & The Wrong Reasons may be a Rhode Island band, but Friday night had to feel like a homecoming. TT the Bears Place got a nice sell out on Friday night with Joe and his group in as well as Newport Folk Fest and Brunch Session alums Spirit Family Reunion landed in our fair city for what may have been one of the best shows of the month, if not the year. Fletcher as usual brought his straight ahead grizzled rock / americana sound into the room and delighted fans with songs from…

Review | Spirit Family Reunion – No Separation

Spirit Family Reunion – I Am Following The Sound [I]mpassioned music abounds on Spirit Family Reunion’s proper LP, No Separation, which to me is THE Guthriesque gospel / folk album of yesteryear, released this year.  I’ve been up on my soapbox hollering as loud as I can about these guys, and this album is the realization of all of those yeasayings. The true definition of roots music lays all across this album, I’d highlight some tracks, but honestly each of them represents the roots of Americana so well, its a top to bottom solid record.  What I love about it,…

We’ll start the event at 11AM so that you hungry folks can eat before the music starts. This all takes place in an apartment conveniently located near South Station (more details on the ticket purchasing page). The event will end at 4:30pm. More Importantly, lets hear the MUSIC! Spirit Family Reunion –…

You Should Know | Spirit Family Reunion

Spirit Family Reunion – When My Name Is Spoken Upon the near incessant applaud from my friend Steve I plugged in the Spirit Family Reunion’s self-titled EP.  The Brooklyn band, who certainly doesn’t sound like a Brooklyn band, reeks of bucolic, countryside bluegrass music.  Fiddles are played, banjos are plucked, and washboards are rattled as SFR plays their brand of some of the most enthralling, old-timey americana / bluegrass you’ll hear.  It stands to reason how these guys ended up in Brooklyn.  These songs are dusty, ramshackles that seem to blend a bit of the old and the new, and…
