15. The Lone Bellow – Self Titled [A]s much as I gripe about The Lone Bellow’s self-titled debut, for me when I hear it, I can’t help but think it’s formulaic, an undeniable focus group created music for maximum broad appeal, and then I press play, and the urge to not like the music that comes pouring out of this Brooklyn trio melts, and I realize just how undeniably great the record is. You can stick your trend derivative anti-qualifiers in a sack, this record is fantastic and they did it on their first try. The Tracks > Two…

Photos by Boston Concert Photography [B]rooklyn band The Lone Bellow took to the stage last Wednesday night to a roar from the sold-out crowd that had been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the newest heavy-hitters on the Americana rock n’ roll map. 2013 has been kind to the trio and their commitment to the road, combined with multiple visits to each state over the course of the year, have helped in spreading the word far and wide Zach Williams (guitar, vocals), Kanene Pipkin, (mandolin, vocals) and Brian Elmquist (guitar, vocals) have introduced deeper layers of sound to the Lone Bellow…
9 Comments[W]ay back in early January we began to sing the praises of a new band out of Brooklyn known as The Lone Bellow. They released a video for their first single “Two Sides of Lonely” and soon thereafter came the debut, self-titled album. Since that time let’s just say that things have picked up quite a bit for the New York trio. They have gone from openers to headliners in less than a year, with a hugely successful stop at the star making Newport Folk Festival in July playing a tremendous part in their sudden and much deserved popularity. The…

[T]he Lone Bellow keep adding more and more fans to the fold and the trio’s dizzying assent to the top of the folk-rock food chain has been something to behold these past few months. They wear their hearts on their finely tailored sleeves and no where is this more evident than in the fantastic track “Bleeding Out,” from the self-titled debut album released back in January. Having written posts on the Brooklyn band a few times already this year it pleases me to no end that our fellow music lovers out there in blog-land feel the love for The Lone Bellow as much as I do.
Enjoy the brand-spanking new video for “Bleeding Out” above, and for chrissakes Bostonites get to The Sinclair on June 14th to see them live for “The Road to Newport” show! This goes for all you awesome Music Savage fans across the country…. if they stop in your town check them out. You won’t be disappointed.
If you haven’t already …get yourself a copy of their self-titled album.

10 CommentsYou Never Need Nobody [G]eorgia native Zach Williams began songwriting in 2005 during a time of family crisis and learned to play guitar to help put his emotional outpouring to song. Unknown to Williams at the time he was creating the music that would eventually become the groundwork for his solo effort Zach Williams & The Bellow. With friends and family by his side Williams was Brooklyn bound, with a newly profound outlook on life and eager for a fresh start. In 2010 Brian Elmquist and Kanene Pipkin joined the songwriter as he was trying out new material, and the…
