Tonight | The Zambonis at the Middle East Downstairs

Zambonis

[H]ockey and rock n’ roll go together like fist-a-cuffs and 5-minute majors and no other band combines the best of both worlds better than Bridgeport, Connecticut’s The Zambonis. Formed in 1991, when the Pittsburgh Penguins hoisted the Stanley Cup with Mario Lemieux, after defenceman/guitarist/singer Dave Schneider took a look around at the lack of bands committing themselves 100% to songs about hockey and threw down the gloves. After a few years, and a few 2-minute minor penalties for copyright infringement, The Zambonis released their debut album 100% Hockey…and other stuff. The album spent 13 weeks on the CMJ charts and was added to NHL arena playlists nationwide, thereby fulfilling Dave Schneider’s goal of resurfacing the ice sheet of popular music.

Make your way to the Middle East tonight for high-sticking good times as The Zambonis celebrate the end of the NHL lockout and confess their love for our boys in Black and Gold. The starting lineup for tonight’s game… I mean show… also includes Chris Collingwood (from Fountains of Wayne) and Big Dipper. Doors are at 8pm and you can find more information at the Middle East website.

You can also check out The Zambonis website for downloads, hockey monkey merchandise and “170 songs about hockey, life, love and hockey.”
