New Music | Sandman Viper Command – Strawberry Quick

Sandman Viper Command – Strawberry Quick

Check out this track “Strawberry Quick,” from Ontario, Canada’s Sandman Viper Command (one of the coolest band names around!).  The Canadian indie-rock scene is really blossoming with bands like Holy Fuck & Rural Alberta Advantage, and it seems as though SVC wants to help them carry that torch.  Strawberry Quick is a tasty, rock track with a great pop-melodic sense that will get your head bobbing, and a set of quick-witted rhymes that will have you singing along in no time.

Sandman Viper Command will be heading to CMJ for their first stateside show on October 22 at Arlene’s Grocery with a few following dates in Brooklyn, Chicago, and Rochester.

New Music | Phantogram – Don’t Move

Phantogram – Don’t Move

Electronic rock duo Phantogram have released a new track that is straight off their upcoming mini-LP Nightlife. Don’t Move, the first single is definitely a bit different from their previous stuff. There’s definitely more energy and motion in the new track, no doubt an effect of spending the greater part of the last two years touring in support of their entrancing debut album Eyelid Moves.

The six-track LP will be out November 1st on Barsuk and they’re also heading out on a headlining tour this fall. Definitely check out the new track and catch them if they’re gonna be in your city.

New Music | White Denim – Hot Thought

White Denim – Hot Thought

I’ve posted a bunch of tracks from Austin’s White Denim, earlier this year when they were releasing their fantastic album ‘D’. Their blend of experimental psych / rock has always kept me super interested and when I got this new track from them, I sort of expected the same thing. What I got was actually a little different, and not in bad way at all. Its a funky, bluesy track that sounds more like it could come from a Mayer Hawthorne cut. I find these guys to be extremely exciting, and the great news is this is cut straight out of a new EP titled Takes Place in your Workspace which is out Oct 25 on Downtown Records. Another fun morsel, is they are playing a show here in boston with one of my favorite rock bands out there Manchester Orchestra.

Grab their fantastic album D

Check these guys out if you already haven’t:

New Music | Filligar – Knock Yourself Right Out / Dead Wrong

Filligar – Knock Yourself Out Filligar – Dead Wrong One of the best rock & roll bands you have to know about and our Chicagoan friends, Filligar, sent me 2 unreleased tracks that may appear on an album they are to release in 2012 and well, I’m in love all over again. After I got my hands on their album the Nerve, I had a lot of trouble turning off their album. I was more than thrilled to hear some new tracks, and well, I’m really enjoying both of these tracks and had to share. They employ both a carefree…

New Music | Brown Shoe – Colt Rider

Brown Shoe – Colt Rider They might have a few albums under their belt but Brown Shoe is going to make an impact as something new we all learned about after their release of their newest album The Gift Horse (out Oct 18th). Hailing from Northern CA, the band is made up of four brothers – Aaron, Bryson, Ryan and Lanson Baggaley – plus long-time friend Chandler Clemons. The first cut from the album is “Colt Rider,” a decidedly Band of Horses-like track with crunchy guitar riffs, and soaring vocals. Connect with Brown Shoe Web | Facebook | Twitter

Have Gun Will Travel – Thirteen Miles To Empty Larcenist – Leon Tonight Bradenton Florida’s Have Gun Will Travel come to Somerville’s PA’s Lounge. The show will be rounded out by Music Savage favorites Larcenist, M.Holland and Mount Peru. I’ve spent a lot of time listening to Have Gun Will Travel’s ’08 Casting Shadows Tall As Giants and I’m quickly gulping the kool-aid down. These guys write gorgeous melodic alt country tunes with a wide variety of string assortments they find a way to keep the music extremely beautiful and grounded. Last week at the James Vincent McMorrow show here in town McMorrow delighted the crowd with Chris Isaak’s classic “Wicked Game.” And now I’ve got the chance to release it to everyone because its totally freaking gorgeous. It’s a truly excellent cover performed last month at the Kilkenny Arts Festival in Ireland. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
