Eventually Sure

This one's uncertain from the jump, and that's on purpose. Started pulling songs I couldn't stop playing this month and realized most of them were sitting in that in between space, not sure yet, moving anyway. So I leaned into it.

It opens loud on purpose. slimdan's "Let's Start A Cult!" is not a subtle way to start a playlist and I like that about it, it's basically saying drop whatever's separating us and fix things by actually realizing what's holding us together in the first place. Starting an uncertain playlist with a song about tearing walls down felt like the right kind of contradiction to lead with.

From there it's a run of songs that feel a little chaotic, a little unresolved, Caroline Rose and Hoodie Allen and Carly Rae Jepsen all doing their own version of restless. Sawyer Hill's "Bad Lovers" landed right in the middle of that stretch for me, it's got that same messy, still figuring it out energy as the songs around it.

Then things start to open up a little around Johanna Samuels and The Suitcase Junket, more space, more room to think, before everything tips at track 13.

I couldn't put anything else there. Evan Honer's "pull me out" is the song I kept coming back to all month, it's fully vulnerable, practically begging for help, and it does this thing where space turns into closeness right in front of you, by the end you're finally back where you belong. That's the hinge for me, the whole reason the playlist bends the way it does. Everything before it is looking for footing. Everything after it starts finding some.

The back half is where I let myself breathe a little. Betty's in the Band gives me full Daisy Jones and the Six energy, Almost Famous too honestly, Abigail Rose and Weston Hunter harmonizing together in a way that feels like it was cut live on a stage somewhere, not built in a studio, and I love that. Eddie 9V's "Whole Lot Coming For You" is just guitars, that raw rock sound we don't get enough of anymore, straight up Freddie King blues running through it, and it's juiced on energy in a way that snaps you back awake after the quieter stretch before it. And it feels so good to have Gaffa Tape Sandy back, "Home Waiting" is their garage punk thing with the dual lead vocals that always gets me, it's repetitive almost on purpose and just dives right into your head and stays there.

It closes on Goodnight, Texas, a band I don't think gets talked about enough around here. "Argentina (Goodbye for Now)" is exactly what it sounds like, a goodbye, and it felt like the right way to land a playlist about slowly getting somewhere. Not a big resolution, just enough peace to call it done.

This one might still change a little before it's final, but for now it's built like I want it, start to finish. Start at track one.
