Mixtape | April 2018

The month of April is over, and we’re finally getting out from under our winter form and into the allergy season. There was tons of new great music, and I slipped in a cover on this mixtape. I hope you like it as much as I do. As always, let us know what we’ve missed (if anything), and please do enjoy.

Mixtape | March 2018

The month of March is over, and it’s time for the world to bloom a bit. This month was especially difficult to keep the total tracks to 40. Editing down, we’ve got great new stuff from Natalie Prass, to Erin Rae, Ry Cooder, Hiss Golden Messengerand so much more. I’m so so stoked on this mixtape and I hope you like it as much as I do. As always, let us know what we’ve missed (if anything), and please do enjoy.

Mixtape | November 2017

Press Play I feel like I’m more stoked about the music on this mixtape than maybe any other month, but when I look back and I see other mixtapes, I think I say the exact thing every month. Regardless, this November dispatch of tunes is fantastic, and I’m super psyched to get it in front of your eyes an in your ears. Enjoy, and as always let me know what I missed!

Mixtape | October 2017

Press Play October was a spooky good month for new music, and I’m psyched for the broad range of music that we’ve got on this playlist. Everything from power pop jams to jangly americana to lo-fi ambling indie rock. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. As always if there’s something I missed, please leave a comment and tell me what it is.

2015 | Steve’s Top Albums of the Year

Welp… I don’t think it would be at all possible to put this off any longer than I have. The yearly tradition of picking a favorite kid once again has me denying that I actually need to do it (they’re all special in their own way!) Someone much smarter than me once told me that limitations create value, and since time is also short, I’m going to adopt the style of the #50WordReview for each of the albums below. (For the record, they are in an order determined by the total number of track plays for all tracks on the…

#50WordReview | Cicada Rhythm: Cicada Rhythm

Editor’s note: This post debuts a new feature on MusicSavage, the #50WordReview. Brought back from a previous life on another music blog—R.I.P., Melophobe—we’ll endeavor to give you some quick hits on albums we’re listening to that we think you should hear as well. Classically-trained girl meets train-hopping troubadour boy. Opposites attract and create a debut effort worthy of note. The album, like the band members, is a study in contrast as refined meets rough around the edges, with the two alternating throughout the album to great result. Folk, americana, jazz, blues—iiiiit’s in there. * Reminds us of: Little Joy, TMOE +…
