[F]riday at the Folk Fest may have been a rainy day affair, but as far as opening the Festival, we had a great opportunity to get our groove on, checking out sets from Amanda “F-ing” Palmer, Phosphorescent, Blake Mills backed up by Dawes, The Milk Carton Kids, folk upstarts Kingsley Flood, Houndmouth, John McCaulley of Deer Tick and closed out the day as the sun peeked through the clouds with the Old Crow Medicine Show. Take a look at our first day in photos from our photographer, Jamie Reiley, and let us know which show you most enjoyed.

Deer Tick – Born At Zero Rhode Island’s Deer Tick really needs no introduction. They seem to never let up when it comes to releasing material. Their latest EP, Tim, which was named for probably Deer Tick’s biggest influence, the Replacements; released back in February. This cut, “Born At Zero,” is a rock’n’roll track that surprises that it didn’t make Divine Providence, one of my favorite tracks. Its a fuzzy, distorted, and irreverent, just the way it should be. This just proves, Deer Tick’s throw aways are better than most bands bests. Buy Tim – EP

It’s certainly one of my favorites, and quickly became an album I could not shut off. Check out the video for Main Street, the next single off the aforementioned album, the video is like jackass meets rock & roll… explosions, urination, and set destruction. Buy Name Your Link

Fresh off the release of Divine Providence, Rhode Island based boozy rockers Deer Tick will be playing a sold out show here in Boston to crowds of Tick heads dying to hear some their favorite tracks off of DP. The new album is a healthy representation of exactly how a Deer Tick show sounds. It’s a raw, drunken boot stomper that may have turned off some critics (but who gives a shit) but I for one am a huge fan of it. I’ve seen these guys a handful of times, every show has a personality,…
Leave a CommentDeer Tick – Miss K. Providence’s Deer Tick’s upcoming new release has been on my list of must listens since it was being recorded. They are just one of those bands that are iconic to the music scene I follow; I just love these guys, live, recorded and everything in between so I’m excited just to get to hear a single track from their upcoming album. Their upcoming record, Divine Providence, will release on October 25th via Partisan Records. About the album, McCauley says, “After so many years of critics praising [and making fun of] us for our ‘folk’ and…
