Photos | Robert Ellis + Ian O’Neil @ Great Scott

A night that begins with Ian O’Neil and ends with Robert Ellis in a tiny packed venue like Great Scott is all I could ever ask for a Sunday night (while Game of Thrones isn’t on yet) and hell if this night didn’t pay off in spades. Since I last saw Robert Ellis on the stage at Boston’s Great Scott last May, it seemed as though Texas Piano Man was an inevitability. During a set with Traveller, Fritz, Chisel and band would leave Robert some time alone to tickle the ivories, and put on his best Billy Joel. From that…

Photos + Review | Liz Cooper and The Stampede + Harpooner @ Great Scott

Last Monday, February 25th us winter-weary Boston folks got a much needed southern heatwave in the form of a rocking whirlwind of a trio known as Liz Cooper & The Stampede. The jet stream pulled the psych-folk-soul currents directly from Nashville, Tennessee right through the doors of Great Scott, and created a raucous tornado of guitar-fueled energy that swept up folks eager for a good night of tunes. Cooper expertly controlled the stage with her guitar prowess, while Grant Prettyman, (bass), and Ryan Usher(drums) kept the rock n’ roll storm swirling around the jam-packed venue. Liz and the boys kicked…

Photos | Caroline Rose + Henry Jamison @ Great Scott

Few things can draw people together in the way that an off-the-chain musical performance can. And that, my friends, is precisely what Caroline Rose and her cohorts are delivering on a nightly basis: an insanely entertaining, diverse, high-energy eargasm of a show. Touring behind her latest release (and Music Savage #AOTY nominee,) LONER, Rose and her band of merry mischief makers (including a handless Elmo and Chelsea the faceless, animatronic cat) are ripping up sold out shows across this great land of ours. The sold out show at Great Scott was no exception. Working their way through almost the whole…

Photos + Review | Whitney + Hoops @ Great Scott

If you were lucky enough to be at one of the two sold-out Whitney shows at Great Scott on Sunday, October 9th you witnessed a band in the throes of a breakthrough year, currently on a breakout tour in support of one of my favorite albums of the year, Light Upon The Lake, and having one hell of a good time. The capacity crowd was expecting something great and the Chicago boys did not disappoint. Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich are no strangers to the music landscape (both were in the fantastic band Smith Westerns and Ehrlich played drums for Unknown Mortal Orchestra)…

Photos + Review | Tall Tall Trees + Seryn + The Naked Stills @ Great Scott

Photos by Boston Concert Photography There’s no other way to put this Boston folks. If you missed last week’s phenomenal show featuring our very own The Naked Stills, Nashville band Seryn, and New York City’s Tall Tall Trees, well then you need to rethink your musical priorities! On Thursday, April 23rd yours truly, accompanied by the Music Savage photography wizard whose images grace this write-up, arrived at a packed Great Scott, weary from a long week and unsure how we would be able to gather our second wind. All of that exhaustion faded away the moment Boston boys The Naked…

Tonight | Larcenist w/ Kelly McFarling & The Home Team, Cactus Attack @ Great Scott

[L]ocal boys (and Music Savage favorites) Larcenist kick off a great show at one of Boston’s great venues Great Scott. Their latest release, Eager City, Patient Country, is an album which translates beautifully live, and in the intimate setting of Great Scott you will easily be swept up in the band’s showmanship and storytelling in songs of unbridled hope, mixed with a just twinge of despair. Our bearded brothers play their hearts out each and every show and you should most definitely head out early tonight to help them start up the fun. [S]an Francisco based banjo-wiz Kelly McFarling called Boston home…
