Video | Jaill – Perfect Ten

Milwaukee’s Jaill released their album Traps, on Sub Pop today as well as the video for their track “Perfect Ten,” a guitar driven track with a pretty awesome groove. The video’s visual is a little disturbing, but in a funny way.  Check out whether the protagonist makes it into the Distinguished Citizens Club.

New Music | Fang Island – Sisterly

Fang Island – Sisterly Fang Island’s followup to their fantastic debut (one of my favorites of 2010) is getting awfully close to release day.  On July 24th, we’ll get a listen to Major, their sophomore release.  We’ve already heard one track (Asunder) and the band is releasing a second from the album titled “Sisterly,”  which follows their old formula, frenetic, manic rock tracks with tons of energy and a burst of fun.  “Sisterly,” is a guitarists dream track, full of fabric ripping riffs, and the chorus lines are definite sing-alongs.  Turn up the volume, roll down the windows and press…

Tonight | Air Traffic Controller CD Release

Air Traffic Controller – Blame Tonight at Brighton Music Hall, Boston based 6 piece, Air Traffic Controller, will release their new album Nordo.  The band is led by Dave Munro who spent time in the Navy as an actual Air Traffic Controller, and wrote the album to cope with homesickness and a long distance relationship.  At the time, Munro sent home 4 track demos and came home to fans that prompted the creation of the band. The band took to Kickstarter to fund the creation of Nordo, and received the support they needed to make a brilliant indie pop record.…

New Music | Young Moon – Winds Light

Young Moon – Winds Light Trevor Montgomery’s Young Moon project creates a sound that feels lonely, and vulnerable; is it a case of the name becoming the sound, the music is a bit spacey, or a set of influences?  For me, I hear a John Hughes film influence, his music right away sounds like somber moments in the 80’s films of my childhood.  Times in the movies when the protagonist is searching for answers, within a problem or within himself.  That’s the mood Young Moon’s “Winds Light” puts me into. New Music | Kris Orlowski – All My People Go

I’m becoming a big fan of Seattle-based Kris Orlowski.  He’s released a couple really great EP’s in The Freemont Abbey EP and The Warsaw EP back in November.  He sent this great video for a new song of his titled “All My People Go,” released as an initiative happening in Seattle called Protosong Project. The live recording of the track is wonderful, and his vocals are deep and anchor the gentle picking, as the simple singer songwriter song picks up in intensity filling in with drums & piano swells.  I’m really hoping he puts together a full LP soon and its high time…

New Music | Matthew E. White – One of These Days

Matthew E. White – One of These Days “One of These Days,” is the first single from Richmond, VA’s Matthew E. White, a downtempo number that features gentle vocals that are haunting (its a juxtaposition that does work pretty well) personal, & soulful yet modest.  The subtlety and gentleness makes the cross into the guitars and slight swell on the horns & choir.  This is a great sounding track that will be played again and again. His self-produced debut LP, Big Inner, will be released in August; a limited “One Of These Days” 7″ will be released on July 24 (but…

New Music | Jens Lekman – Erica America

[audiotube id=”ylusuuXEJ4k” time=”no”] In September, Swedish songwriter Jens Lekman will release his break-up record titled I Know What Love Isn’t.  Our first listen is a track titled “Erica America,” a duet with Australian singer Sophie Brous that is particularly, heart-wrenchingly painful in a sort of funny way.  Lekman has always had a way with lyrics that seem to bear the soul but in a funny almost self-deprecating manner.

Review | Langhorne Slim – The Way We Move

Langhorne Slim – The Way We Move It’s been a long while since Langhorne Slim’s last album Be Set Free, which hit our ears back in ’09.  But this past tuesday, we all got a taste of what he’s been up to these last three years.  Although if you’ve been attending his live shows, you’ve heard quite a few of these tracks (and probably loved them). Attempting to capture the pure energy and soul of a Langhorne Slim show into a record is no easy task, but its most evident that they were trying and we can be sure listen…
