Last Night! Jonny Corndawg, Shovels & Rope, Robert Ellis

Robert Ellis – What’s In It For Me Shovels & Rope – Boxcar Jonny Corndawg – Shut Up To be completely honest, when last nights show was announced a few months ago, and I saw what day the show was on (4/1) I thought it was either a very early April Fools joke, or a show that was booked entirely just for me. Three of my absolute favorite acts all on one stage, in a small venue one that I really enjoy. Excitedly, I scooped up tickets and patiently waited for the show. Teeming with anticipation, the doors to Great…

Jonny Corndawg – Shut Up

Jonny Corndawg – Shut Up

I’ve been meaning to post this, as a treat Newport Folk Fest and Jonny Corndawg released a Dad Country B-side titled “Shut Up.” Though if you’ve seen Jonny live I’m quite certain you’ve heard the track, because it appeared on his album, I’m Not Ready to be a Daddy. But this is a new more full sound, a completely different feel, it includes a solo from one of my favorites, Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes).

Corndawg will be touring relentlessly, and will make a couple of stops here in MA at the end of the month.

Top 50 Albums of 2011 30-26

We all love lists, and we all love sarcasm.  Though, I think its important to reflect upon the last year of music, I’m going to do so through the use of a list.  It was a fantastic year full of awesome albums, and I’m going to count down a bunch of my favorites, and give you something to listen to while reading. 30. To be redundant, they create a sound…

Tonight | Jonny Corndawg opens for Trampled by Turtles

Jonny Corndawg – Chevy Beretta Tonight at the Paradise comes to town a huge favorite of mine Mr. Jonathan Fritz, aka Jonny Corndawg. He’s bringing wild leather goods, quick witted country songs that will make you laugh (Exercise) and ones that might make you cry (Undercover Dad).  Jonny truly is a one of a kind artist, and I’m happy to get the chance to have a sit down with him tonight.  Jonny has been on tour for what seems to be forever and we’re lucky to have him here in town.  He brings honky tonk, outlaw country style, sometimes raunchy…

Review | Jonny Corndawg – Down on the Bikini Line

Jonny Corndawg – Chevy Beretta Jonny Corndawg – The Life of a Bear Jonathan Fritz, or better known to his friends and fans, Jonny Corndawg is one of the hardest working guys in music today. He relentlessly tours, with everyone from Jessica Lea Mayfield to Dawes, Robert Ellis and coming in Boston with Trampled By Turtles in November. What can you say about this guy, he’s a touring machine, a marathon runner, and one of the warmest, nicest guys you will ever meet. Down on the Bikini is Jonny’s 2nd release, behind the wonderfully named I’m Not Ready to Be…

New Music | Jonny Corndawg – The Life of a Bear

The Life of a Bear Thursday night while I was at the Paradise for Middle Brother, Deertick and Dawes I got a chance to hear Jonny Corndawg.  A friend of the bands’ he played a few of his songs during Dawes’ set… I couldn’t help but really love his fun sound, playful lyrics, country twang and if you were there, his dancing style.  During the show, he offered up downloads to some of his music, needless to say, I went out and downloaded them right away from his bandcamp.
