Mixtape | August 2018

I’m super late (vacation, and some technical issues) to getting this to ya’ll but hey music is music. August was a pretty great month for new music, with new music from some of our favorites like Aaron Lee Tasjan, Ron Gallo and Tallest Man on Earth. But we saw and heard great tunes from all over. Please do let us know if we’ve missed any songs that you are loving right now.

2013 | Kyle’s Top Records 15 – 11

15. The Lone Bellow – Self Titled [A]s much as I gripe about The Lone Bellow’s self-titled debut, for me when I hear it, I can’t help but think it’s formulaic, an undeniable focus group created music for maximum broad appeal, and then I press play, and the urge to not like the music that comes pouring out of this Brooklyn trio melts, and I realize just how undeniably great the record is. Friday at Newport Folk Festival in Photos

[F]riday at the Folk Fest may have been a rainy day affair, but as far as opening the Festival, we had a great opportunity to get our groove on, checking out sets from Amanda “F-ing” Palmer, Phosphorescent, Blake Mills backed up by Dawes, The Milk Carton Kids, folk upstarts Kingsley Flood, Houndmouth, John McCaulley of Deer Tick and closed out the day as the sun peeked through the clouds with the Old Crow Medicine Show. Take a look at our first day in photos from our photographer, Jamie Reiley,  and let us know which show you most enjoyed.

New Music | Phosphorescent – Song for Zula

[P]hosphorescent is back at it, brining a new full-length, Muchacho, a sonic shift kind of water that feels as though it was recorded under water.  There’s a certain, touching vibe to “Song for Zula,” that really hits you straight in the heart. It feels contemplative, heart-warming, and almost soul-crushing at the same time. It’s a fragile sounding track, the layered synths, and the weeping pedal steel along with the string assortments really create a truly earnest feel to one of the nicest sounding tracks we’ve heard this year.  Super excited to hear what else Matthew Houck has in store for…
