There’s something about a group of incredible musicians—who also happen to be incredible friends—that can change not only your mood, but your outlook on the world around you. As we near Christmas and this peaceful, joyous time that stresses most of us the fuck out, I can’t emphasize enough how badly needed the Hiss Golden Messenger show at The Sinclair really was. HGM—always lead by MC Taylor—takes many forms, but the collective that took to the stage this past Monday was something special. You could feel it not only in the crowd, but from the energy being emitted from those…

There’s a certain somber delight that comes with attending a performance by Colter Wall. While the subject of the songs you’re singing along to may range from being harassed by police, to infidelity and revenge homicide, to driving your motorcycle off a mountainside, there’s a comforting feeling that even in your loneliest hour, you’re never alone and there’s always another day ahead of you. Wall, an early-twenties Canadian Cowboy whose moody, husky baritone and classic songcraft have drawn the attention of music fans from Natuashish to Nashville, rolled into Cambridge this past Sunday to croon in front of a sold-out…
Leave a CommentAnytime a hometown band returns to Boston, they’re bound to be met with exuberance. But to say the crowd at The Sinclair was excited to welcome Darlingside home would be a severe understatement. There was a palpable excitement throughout the venue last Thursday night, even before the lights dimmed to welcome the evening’s opening act Twain. Even before the first notes flew, there was a giddy anticipation from the folks close to the stage. Singing and rocking to the house music in anticipation of welcoming Darling side home. And the band—touring behind their brand new release Extralife, did not disappoint.…
Leave a CommentIt’s becoming a recurring scene, the Music Savage gang flocking to the Sinclair to catch even a glimpse of the nuclear power factory that is Black Pistol Fire. On the heels of their most recent release, Deadbeat Graffiti, the YYZ come ATX band descended on our little town to set our hair on fire. Opening the night was Nashville’s Blackfoot Gypsies, whom against most any other band could steal the show. Their southern rock / blues / americana sound brings the sound of the Stones and Chuck Berry with a rock-and-roll swagger that is nearly unmatched. Playing songs from their…
Leave a CommentTuesdays don’t usually have much going for them. It’s just a boring, mostly ignored day of the week you pretty much just try to get through. I don’t care for Tuesdays, unless of course there is an amazing show to attend that makes you want to dance like it is Friday night. On March 28th the Music Savage gang, and a few hundred of our friends, had a particularly fantastic Tuesday because we had all day to anticipate an evening of soulful, Latino grooves with Los Angeles band Chicano Batman. The band is currently on tour in support of their fantastic new album, Freedom is Free, which…
Leave a CommentThere aren’t many things that are guaranteed in today’s world, but having a good time at an Alan Doyle show is one thing you can count on. This past Thursday night, Mr. Doyle and The Beautiful Gypsies graced the stage of one of the best venues in the region when they took the stage at The Sinclair in the heart of Harvard Square. Opening with a solo and a toast, Alan proceeded to work his way through a set covering his solo material and a handful of classics (I think we can call the that now) from the Great Big…
Leave a CommentOn a chilly March night in Cambridge, Massachusetts a storm of good ol’ southern rock n’ roll, aptly named the “Stagecoach Spotlight Nikki Lane Highway Queen Tour,” blew into The Sinclair directly from the south bringing with it some of the most talented musicians that side of the Mason-Dixon line. The crowd was treated to three stellar acts, each bringing enough charm and style to light up the stage for a few hours and make us forget we were still in winter’s grasp. First up was Dallas, TX musician Jonathan Tyler. Armed with only a guitar he quickly got to work setting…
Leave a CommentIt was fantastic to come out to Cambridge’s Sinclair, walk towards the stage and see that it was near impossible to find a place to stand. We’d all packed in to see a band who’s latest release is a palette of intimacy and emotion from two of the most sincere and genuine artists I’ve come across. The Sinclair was packed elbow to elbow, and was intensely focused on Andrew Marlin, and Emily Frantz every harmony. And boy can they harmonize, and leave you awestruck. It’s hard to imagine a band or artist out there that comes across more sincere than…
Leave a CommentTo say we were excited to experience Black Pistol Fire last week at the Sinclair is an understatement. I’ve certainly experienced their records, but having not seen them, I prepped myself catching a boatload of videos of their live shows. It’s obvious listening to their records the live show was going to be amazing in that “holy shit these guys sound amazing live” way. Touring on their newest record, Don’t Wake the Riot, which dropped last month, I settled in, whiskey in hand to a lively crowd (understatement) at the Sinclair. From the second the Austin via Toronto Band stepped…
